Spirit of Humanity Awards!

By: Alyssa Dilly

This past Wednesday, April 16th, a unique mix of exceptional, health-focused organizations met at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Mumbai for the 5th Annual Spirit of Humanity Awards. This prestigious award is sponsored by the AmeriCares India Foundation, a public charitable trust that has been providing medical aid across India for over 17 years. It was truly an honor for the Comprehensive Rural Health Project to be selected as one of the 20 shortlisted organizations invited to the awards ceremony.

The Spirit of Humanity Awards recognizes “exemplary contribution towards the underprivileged by not-for-profit organizations and individuals in the field of healthcare.” Individuals and organizations are invited to apply in one of seven categories: Women’s Health, Child Health, Eye Care, Thalassemia, Oncology and Palliative Care, Diabetes, and Jury’s Choice. This year, over 200 applications from throughP1070260out India were screened, and CRHP was selected as one of three finalists in the category of Jury’s Choice.

After a delightful lunch reception, each nominee made a presentation to share their organization’s mission, innovation and impact. Presentations were powerful and inspiring; it was a time to reflect on and appreciate how much passionate, meaningful work is being done across India to help achieve health for all. Nominees then enjoyed afternoon tea, while judges were given time to deliberate and determine overall winners. The much anticipated awards ceremony, amicably MC-ed by RJ Rishi Kapoor of 93.5 Red FM radio, featured musical performances by local artists and were enjoyed by all.

CRHP offers heartfelt congratulations to Apne Aap Women’s Collective (AAWC), winner of the Jury’s Choice category, as well as to all other selected organizations. AAWC, founded in 1998, is an anti-trafficking organization doing incredible work to help women and children of Mumbai’s largest and oldest red light area, Kamathipura, leave prostitution and live healthier, fulfilling lives. CRHP is honored to have been a shortlisted nominee, and looks forward to collaborating with a new network of organizations and the 2015 Awards!
